spray painted straw baskets

How-To
These are so AWESOME, i can see so much potential in decorating them. I'm thinking maybe gluing vintage jewelry on them or maybe rhinestones or jewels. I would love to hear your ideas...

Spray-Painted Straw Baskets

Martha Stewart Living, June 2012
By Silke Stoddard

It started with a birthday present for my colleague Ayesha Patel: a basket that I spray-painted silver, on a whim, for her to store magazines in. After that, I went a little spray-crazy, making silver baskets at the request of friends and for a crafts fair. As customers carried them away, I realized that even though I had envisioned the baskets functioning as storage, they looked just as good dangling from people's arms as summer accessories.
To make one, start with a basket -- odds are, you already have one that could use a makeover. Working outside to avoid breathing in fumes, quickly and evenly spray the basket with silver paint, and let it dry for a few hours.
Spray-painted silver, these baskets look like boutique finds but were created in minutes. Use them as totes or for storage. (You can also spray paint straw accessories like hats, totes, and slippers.)

here is the web site i got them from http://www.marthastewart.com/901710/spray-painted-straw-baskets

Here are just a few of the ideas:

Dying Buttons

Wow, who would of known.... check out there site http://www.ritdye.com/

Dyed Buttons

Whether you are a crafter or a sewing fashionista, you will enjoy dyeing buttons. It’s fun and easy to do. Most white buttons are made out of nylon or some type of plastic. Rit is one of the few dyes that will color these materials. That means you can transform ordinary buttons into colorful accents that match or coordinate with whatever you are making.

Buttons add a colorful accent to flower arrangements!
Rit Dye colors shown:
  • Lemon Yellow, Golden Yellow, Sunshine, Orange, Apple Green

Supplies Needed

  • Rit Liquid or Powder Dye: Any color or mix dye to create a custom color. Colors used in photographs: Sunshine Orange, Evening Blue, Scarlet, Fuchsia, Lemon Yellow, Violet, Apple Green, Golden Yellow
  • White Buttons
  • Measuring Cup
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Disposable Plastic Containers for dyeing buttons
  • Spoon for mixing dyes
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Plastic Table Cover
  • Paper Towels

Instructions

  1. Cover work surface with a plastic table cover.
  2. Decide what colors you like and prepare dye according to the basic recipe below. Liquid dyes are more concentrated than powder dyes so use half as much dye. Always test color with fabric scrap or paper towel before dyeing buttons. If color is too light, add more dye; if it is too dark, add more water.
  3. Basic Recipe: Measure and mix 1 teaspoon liquid dye or 2 teaspoons powder dye with 1 Cup HOT Water. Shake liquid dyes before measuring. Water should be about 140°F. If your tap water is not hot enough, heat some in the microwave or a tea kettle.
  4. Pour dye and water into a plastic container; stir. Make sure container is deep enough.
  5. Immerse buttons in dye solution for 2 to 5 minutes. Stir occasionally and check color frequently. Remove buttons when desired color is achieved. Rinse buttons. Then wash with soap and water, rinse and dry with paper towels.

Nutella VS Jif Chocolate spread

 I'm a HUGE Nutella lover,
I use it all the time and have tons of recipes for uses (that will come in another LONG post LOL).
But I came across Jif version of Nutella the other day so i thought i'd try it.

I'll start with it's not the same, but pretty close. Maybe its because i use Nutella all the time, but in a blindfold test (ok i wasn't really blind folded, i just closed my eyes) I could tell the difference.

1. favor is slightly different, not quite as rich and hazlenutty !!!
2. texture was a bit thinner than Nutella.

I would buy the Jif version again, but only for baking or frosting...

But when it comes to spreading it on my toasted bagel or raisin toast Nutella wins...

I would love to hear your comments
